I’ve found it interesting following the implementation of “soft war” techniques by the US military after the failure of conventional, top down approaches to the currently culture driven conflicts. The human terrain teams now being implemented, including understanding the culture of these locations thru ethnographic methods is proving to be quite effective. Likewise the now defunct Department of Information may be resurrected as the military realizes it needs to embrace new methods of communication and information gathering or “information warfare.”
